our wee home

We've lived in our little house in the suburbs for almost a year (!!!) and I have to say, it is so nice owning our own home. I mean, sometimes I wish we could just call the landlord when things go wrong but at the same time it's kind of fun learning how to do all these grown up things ourselves.

please ignore the sad, dead plant out front

We only saw our house once before buying it. Luckily, we haven't found any huge problems with it but we have found that there are some things that just don't make any sense. For instance, the backsplash in our kitchen doesn't go all the way up to the cabinets - it's been hacked off unevenly and doesn't fully cover the wall. You can only see it if you look up under the cupboards but still. The theme of our house seems to be "We DIY-ed this, got bored halfway through and haphazardly finished it, but it looks fine from a distance!"

Just what you want in a house, right?

Then, of course, there's accounting for the difference in taste.

We have an open plan downstairs, and this stag wallpaper covers the long wall that adjoins our neighbors' house. While it's nothing I can't live with (evidenced by the last ten months), it's not exactly to my particular taste. Maybe it's just me, but I think it's too autumnal for year-round decor.

Not to mention, of course, that our back garden looked like this - full of small rocks. It was easy to maintain but not very pretty. The back garden has had an update, but the front garden and the inside of the house are still works in progress. I'm hoping to get a proper house tour up soon, once I've cleaned and taken some half decent photos. In the meantime, I'm looking for any recommendations for budget-friendly UK based home furnishing websites! Where do you go to look for wallpaper, pillows, and curtains? Let me know in the comments below :)

ps: anyone else in the UK positively melting right now? My office hasn't had A/C since April...it hit 30 degrees Celsius today! Stay cool, friends.

xoxo
