unemployment and my new bff.

You might think unemployment inspires me to write more blog posts.

You'd be wrong.

Unemployment mostly inspires me to sit in my pajamas until 2 PM watching Judge Judy. And yes, I only sit there until 2 because then it's time for Unsolved Mysteries and I'm not brave enough to watch that while home alone. The reason that I'm sitting at home now instead of working is because I'm not legally allowed to work yet. Though I do have a visa that permits me to be here, it's only a temporary Fiancée visa: good for six months to allow me to get married, but not good for permanent residence or work. Before I apply for the next visa, I'm working on getting a new passport with my married name. But while all these cogs are getting set in motion, it's just me, myself, and Judge Judy.

One of the last summer days we'll see this year...sniff sniff...

The Scottish summer seems to be over already, with the temperature dropping and a significant increase in rain. (I just had to stop writing to get up and turn the heating on for a bit!) My birthday is tomorrow and I don't think I've ever had a birthday with weather this cold. It's August--many a childhood birthday was celebrated with pool parties and copious amounts of sunscreen. But I guess that's part of the adventure in living somewhere else, isn't it? I'll be celebrating my birthday this year with a trip through to the American Consulate in Edinburgh to apply for my new passport, followed by a Skype date with my Mom and Grandma and then dinner with my handsome husband in City Centre. This weekend we'll have friends over for cake and drinks...and on Saturday, I get a special surprise adventure day as my birthday present. In case you couldn't tell, I'm a supporter of the birthday week idea. :)

I've also just signed up for the Great Scottish Run 10K this October in Glasgow. Training starts today, actually, so I'm hoping that I'll be ready when the time comes! I'm trying to keep myself busy in ways that require me to leave the flat, so we'll see how successful this is. I've already worked my way through half of the library books I got last week. I might be unemployed, but at least I'll be well-read and thoroughly versed in courtroom etiquette, right? And you might just get some good posts out of me yet--I won't give up if you don't! :)

  1. I, too, have been swallowing books whole, since my job ended in May. If you need an excuse to get out of the house, look no further than a Weimaraner. :) Hope you have a splendid birthday! Oh, and let's average our current temperatures and both enjoy 79-degree weather, okay? Happy training!

  2. This was me last summer. I totally feel you. I wanted to rock but couldn't. So frustrating! And happy early birthday! x

  3. Thanks, Jess! I so wish we could have a ball of fluff of our very own...sometimes I go down to the park just to puppy-watch. I'm really looking forward to the day that I have a four-legged running partner!

  4. Thanks! :) The unemployment thing makes me feel like dramatically flopping onto the couch and whining. I don't do well like this! But it'll be over soon...right? x

  5. Hi there! I have just stumbled upon your blog today and I am completely smitten by it. You're living quite the adventure! Looking forward to future posts and good luck with your training. : )

Thanks for taking the time to comment! It's well and truly appreciated. :)
