Sweeter than tupelo honey: An Engagement Story, part I.

Y'all, I really wasn't expecting to be writing this post.
Well...maybe I was expecting to, but in a long-off-far-distant sort of way, you know?
But here it is. Boyfriend and I are engaged!
Which I guess makes him Fiancé now, actually.

It's only been about a week, so you'll have to forgive me for forgetting.

holy ponytail, Batman!

It's been an amazing and overwhelming first week of engaged life. We've had such an outpouring of love and blessings, it just makes my heart sing. We are seriously surrounded by the most amazing people in the world.
I can't lie--I've been pretty reserved about talking about our relationship around here. It's a combination of trying to keep our relationship between the two of us and a very real oh-my-goodness-as-soon-as-I-write-a-mushy-post-he'll-dump-me fear. Not because of the mushy post, mind you, but just because writing about how happy you are seems like a good way of challenging the universe to make you unhappy.
And I'm not a fan of challenging the universe.

But here we are--engaged!--and I think it might finally be safe to say that I'm happy. Ecstatic, really. Delighted, joyful, thrilled...I could go on and on. I was an English major, synonyms are my thing.
It's a pretty rare thing to find someone you really click with, and even rarer for all the stars to align and the timing to be perfect for you to actually be together. There's no doubt in my mind that us finding each other was a blessing.

So to celebrate this exciting occasion, I'll be giving y'all the whole scoop--how we met, how we got engaged, and how we take this next step forward as a couple. There are going to be a lot of big events and changes in our lives, including an international wedding, one semi-permanent expat, and that whole being married thing. I don't want to forget any of it.

Stay tuned! The first part of our story involves a desperate need to dance, a pub quiz prize, and a group of new friends out on the town...

Congrats!!! I've been looking forward to your next post! Glad it's a celebratory one :) I'm moving abroad soon, and I've been checking out expat blogs all over the interwebz. Yours is one of my favorites!

  2. Oh, you are so lovely for saying that! :) Where are you moving? I did the same thing when I was moving and I'm so glad I did.

I'm moving to London! I actually visited the city for the first time while I was studying abroad at Glasgow Uni :) I can't wait to move and start building a life abroad (instead of leaving after a single semester). Did/do you have a favorite expat blog that you'd recommend I check out?

  4. Congratulations! It's so exhilarating and nerve-wracking to make that move, I know. But it's all worth it, don't worry! One of my favorite blogs is Betsy Transatlantically--she lived in London, too, so you might find her older posts particularly helpful for your transition. There are so many expat blogs out there!

  6. Congrats on your engagement :) I'm new to your blog and I'm really digging it.

  7. Thank you so much! Welcome to my little slice of the interwebs. :)

Thanks for taking the time to comment! It's well and truly appreciated. :)
