true confessions from an ex-pat.

I've been gone a while, I know. I'm sure some of you are wondering why I haven't updated and where the promised pictures of Grecian beaches and ruins are.
And I have to tell you honestly: there aren't any.

The truth of the matter is that my second semester of grad school overwhelmed me entirely. It was a long, cold winter for this poor Floridian girl. My work load was inordinately heavy and all of my assignments had the same deadline. Really. It was nuts. Add to that a healthy dose of actually being homesick for the first time in my life and you get a little crazy patch. (Ok, ok, it was a big crazy patch.)
It had gotten to the point where even thinking about packing for my trip to Greece made me want to throw myself on my bed in a pre-teen fit of despair. So when my mom mentioned that maybe I should just skip that trip and move my ticket home up a week or so, I jumped on it. I had been super excited about going to Greece with my friends, but stress had destroyed that anticipation and what I really needed was some time at home.
Those friends, by the way, were totally understanding and supportive, for which I am eternally grateful.

I've been avoiding blogging because I don't like admitting when I have a hard time. I don't think anyone does. But I think it's important that I'm honest about my experience living in another country and sometimes that includes the bad stuff, like being really homesick. The good news is that after a month with my family and friends and lots of Florida sunshine, I'm back to being my normal self. I've been back in Glasgow for a couple of weeks and life is pretty good. It's a busy time right now--I just moved and I'm flying back to the States in a week (eek!). And I'm attempting to work on my dissertation. Attempting is the key word here, folks. I'm hoping that I'll be blogging more soon, if only for a good procrastination session. I have lots of pictures and adventures to share!
Thanks for sticking with me through the valley of absolutely no posts.
