where to eat

The restaurants listed below are some of my favorites. Most of them are in the West End/Byres Road area, simply because that's my part of town! I hope you enjoy.

Ashton Lane
Brel serves a variety of foods, but I recommend ordering a few of the small plates. My favorites were the honey, mustard, and rosemary glazed sausages and the sweet potato and lime pakora. Brel is also a great place for a pint on the weekends, with or without dinner.

1256 Argyle Street
The Islay has traditional pub food-- macaroni and cheese, fish and chips, and haggis, neeps, and tatties among them. They have live music a couple nights a week, and quiz night on Wednesdays.

1191 Argyle Street
This is the only Thai restaurant I've managed to find in Glasgow, and their pad thai is delicious.

Old Salty's
1126 Argyle Street
A traditional chippy with a restaurant feel, Old Salty's is a Glasgow gem. In my opinion, it's the best place in town for a Full Scottish, and if it's after 2 PM, a fish supper. It's pretty popular, so you might have a bit of a wait, but it'll be worth every minute.

Riverhill Coffee Bar
24 Gordon Street
Hands down, Riverhill has the best coffee in Glasgow. Delicious cakes and sandwiches are on display, but you might be better off getting them as a takeaway due to the very limited seating. They have recently opened a restaurant on West Nile street, though I haven't had the chance to try it yet.

La Vita Spuntini
199 Byres Road
Spuntini is a bit of a fancier restaurant, but they have lovely Italian food and a beautiful restaurant. A great place for a nice evening out.

S'mug
169 Great George Street
S'mug is an adorable independent coffee shop, tucked behind the M&S and close to Glasgow Uni. It's quite small, but a treasure. (I might be a little partial to it because Boyfriend and I had our first date there!)

24 George Square
I haven't been here for dinner, but I have been for lunch. The food was great and the location was lovely.

Italian Kitchen
64 Ingram Street
A little bit fancier than most of the restaurants I go to, I'll be dreaming of dinner here for weeks to come. A truly magnificent Italian dinner with no eggplant parmesan to be seen, you do not want to miss this place!
